Day 3 in Bangkok, non-stop eating and drinking started with lunch at Supanniga Eating Room (which was mediocre so no photos here), followed by coffee at the stylish Boyy Cafe (address at the bottom of this post). Opened by handbag designers Wannasiri “Boy” Kongman and Jesse Dorsey and located right downstairs of their boutique, Boyy Cafe offers coffee and apparently some pretty good dishes, though I didn’t try any savories this time. Large windows backed by shades of green, cute patterned floor tiles, pretty fabric wall panel, and industrial caged lighting. It’s a chic place.
Then, more eating at Audrey Cafe & Bistro, a Thai-fusion, tearoom-style type of place with lots of white furniture and striped wallpaper. It somewhat reminded me of Dazzling Cafe in Taipei, which definitely isn’t my usual go-to place to say the least, but we just happened to pass by and needed a break from the heat. As there weren’t many guests and the interior looked rather airy, we sat down for one of Audrey’s famous sizzling roti. I chose the Thai milk tea version, which was roti with vanilla ice-cream, Thai milk tea sauce, rice krispies, and marshmallows. Actually not too bad but very sweet, so it’s probably a good idea to share among two people.
Then, a bit of shopping at The Emporium, followed by a nice stroll in the Benjasiri Park, and more foot massages (these just never get old).
For dinner, I passed by this this street side Hainan Chicken Rice stall recommended by guidebooks and blogs and decided to give it a try. It’s located right by the entrance to The Emporium shopping mall on Sukhumvit Road, near Phom Phong BTS Station. Very delicious, very cheap (35 THB/small, 40 THB/large) and apparently the chicken also comes in a fried version, though I didn’t try that this time.
Et hop, after the street side dinner it was time to climb to the top of the Banyan Tree for its rooftop Moon Bar. I heard there are better views from other rooftops (e.g. Sky Bar at Lebua Hotel which I visited the next day), but I find the setting here to be quite nice. It is true that the clientele is mostly tourists (I guess locals don’t see the justification of paying 300+ THB for a simple fruit juice), but hey, who am I kidding, I am a tourist myself. I ended up staying for quite a while to enjoy the cool breeze and light jazz while sipping on coconut juice – it was a Buddhist holiday so no alcohol was served – a very pleasant way to end the evening.
