One of the older and more affordable establishments in the Julu Lu/Fumin Lu vicinity, Nepali Kitchen serves – you guessed it – Nepali cuisine: curries, lentils, lamb, and naan. The set up is cozy with raised floor seating and traditional Nepali decorations, a good place for casual gatherings.
Two brunch options here. Vegetarian (55 RMB), which includes soup, plain rice, mixed vegetable curry, spinach, dal/lentil, pickle, sikarni (yogurt), tea or coffee, and non-vegetarian (70 RMB), which includes soup, plain rice, mixed vegetable curry, dal/lentil, mutton sekuwa, chicken curry, pickle, sikarni (yogurt), tea or coffee.
We ordered a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian set to share between two people. The mutton sekuwa was intensely flavorful with pungent Nepali spices, though the meat is a bit tough to chew. Chicken from the curry was very tender and easily picked apart by the fork. Overall, everything from the menu was of decent quality – good price/performance ratio.
Nepali Kitchen might not be a destination in itself, but if you are looking for a relatively affordable restaurant in the Julu Lu / Fumin Lu area with cozy environment and decent food, this is a good choice. Don’t forget to order the fried cheese balls if you come for dinner.
i love naan bread, good bing!
