Just opened in December 2013, Toto Restaurant & Wine Bar is a new trendy place to visit in Barcelona. The “contemporary Italian” cuisine here wasn’t exactly a hit for me, but I absolutely loved the interior design by Lazaro Rosa-Violan. He’s got various styles layering and blending together seamlessly, creating a cozy, sophisticated space with just a touch of whimsy.
Menganito 2011, love the wine label.
Amuse bouche, cauliflower soup with chili and rosemary.
Bread plate (€2.50/person) – did not know we would be charged extra for this until the bill came.
Frito mixto with squid from Arenys de mar, polenta and allioli (€15.50).
Pizzeta with nettles and pecorino (€14).
Burrata with…? (€???)
Carpaccio of sea bass with fava beans, herbs, and chili (€13.50).
Food at Toto wasn’t bad, but it was nothing special. Service also needs some improvement, as all of our dishes were brought to the table all at once (now do I eat the cold or the hot first?). Perhaps things will pick up after a few weeks, but for now the decor is the its most attractive feature. For those who are interested in checking the place out for the ambience, perhaps come here for a drink first?
Next time try Chez Coco. The interior is also by Lazaro Rosa-Violan, but the service and food (in my humble opinion) is far superior than Toto.
