Simon Says is a wonderful, wonderful cafe + bed & breakfast located in the heart of Ghent. We arrived late in the evening exhausted from a full day of touring, and our hosts – Simon and Christopher, two lovely Brits who have been living in Ghent for 10+ years – scooped us right off the floor, carried our luggages up two flights of steep stairs, and ushered us into our simple but comfortably furnished room. Light music in the air, evening breeze through the windows, and a pot of freshly steeped Mariage Frères Jasmin Mandarin tea with Belgian chocolates on the table. Ahh, it’s good to be here.
Simon Says is very conveniently located – it’s a five minute walk from major tourist attractions, and a short taxi ride from St. Peters train station (only costs about €8). For details on how to get there via tram, check their website.
View out the window.
Ensuite bathroom, simple but has most things you need.
Plenty of Ghent city guides in the room for guests to peruse.
The fridge is well stocked with some very reasonably priced beer. The bottle of Vedett Extra White, for example, was only €2.50.
Hot tea, iced water, and some chocolates. A simple but thoughtful gesture that made us feel right at home.
After a late night stroll around the beautiful city center, we passed out in the comfortable beds. The only problem was a mosquito buzzing around in the room, and some minor noise from the streets (earplugs can be found in the drawer), but we had a good night’s sleep anyway and woke up to a sunny Ghent morning. Breakfast time!
