Please note that this is an arranged tasting, so my experience is possibly more positive than a regular visit.
Addicted. One bite of this fluffy, chewy grissini, and I was addicted. It was with great mental control that I stopped myself from devouring another foot-long breadstick, so I can leave room for the Milanese specialties that were to come pouring out of the kitchen. I shifted my attention to other attractions of the restaurant – a dimly-lit romantic space, an extensive selection of Italian wine, an impressive floor-to-ceiling Vinotheque, and panoramic views of Victoria Harbour…

But the waiter brought us yet another batch of warm grissini, fresh out of the oven. Into the stomach they went.

Then came the appetizers – thank god, I can finally stop with the grissini – and first arrived Crab Meat Salad with Fennel, Sicilian Orange and Beetroot (270 HKD). There was a creamy texture to the crab meat salad, I think it was from ricotta cheese but I’m not so sure…it was simultaneously rich and refreshing. Love at first bite.

The Swordfish Carpaccio was another clean and refreshing dish. A sprinkle of sea salt went a long way.

Accompanying the appetizers was a glass of Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio 2010 (98 HKD/glass) in its brilliant shimmering yellow.

Following the appetizers, we had a rustic Homemade Tagliatelle with Porcini, Oven-Roasted Tomatoes, and Tuscan Pork Sausage (270 HKD). The hearty combination of porcini, oven-roasted tomatoes and pork sausage was an instant hit for me.

That went well with a glass of Chianti Superiore Santa Cristina Antinori 2008 (120 HKD/glass), Antinori being Italy’s single best-known wine producer, with over 600 years of history making fine wine.

The main courses, Panfried Pomfret with Mashed Potatoes and Artichokes and Veal Escalopes with Marsala, Roasted Potatoes, and Broccoli Rabe were well put together, but somehow neither of them left a memorable mark. It must’ve been the grissinis. I knew I shouldn’t have devoured so many of them.

To go along with the main courses, a glass of Ca’marcanda Magari Gaia Gaja 2005 (85 HKD/glass), especially packaged for Grissini!

For desserts, a Limoncello Tart (140 HKD), tangy but not overwhelmingly sour. A smooth finish.

Lastly, a plate of petit fours.

Dining at Grissini is an enjoyable experience – come here if you are looking to splurge and indulge, but please, be sure to restrain yourself from stuffing too much grissini – you will need the stomach space for what’s to come after!
