The more than hundred-year-old Oimatsu used to be the wagashi (Japanese confectionery) provider for the Japanese imperial family. It has two locations in Kyoto (Arashiyama and Kitano), and was recommended to me by Nao from Bar Bunkyu the night before.
老松是曾經專門提供和菓子給日本天皇的百年老鋪,在京都有兩家分店(嵐山和北野),推薦這家店的是前一天在文久喝酒時認識的調酒師Nao。
The shop is not huge, but the tables are comfortably distanced. On the left side are floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a beautiful courtyard, and it’s quite lovely to be eating wagashi with this as the backdrop.
店內空間不大,不過桌椅間隔距離寬敞;左邊大片的玻璃窗外有個小庭院,邊吃著和菓子邊看著窗外的景致,也太美好。
The signature dessert at Oimatsu is natsukanto (648 yen), a jelly made from natsumikan, a bitter Japanese citrus fruit in season from April to September. The jelly is set inside the hollowed out whole natsumikan fruit peel, served simply as in the photo below. The bittersweet balance is perfect, and the citrus fragrance especially refreshingly on a hot summer day.
店招牌 “夏柑糖”(648日幣) 配合夏柑橘的産季,是4月到9月初的限定商品。這個看似簡單的甜點,做法是手工將日本國産的特等柑橘果肉挖出榨汁,用寒天凝固後凍于原本的柑橘皮內呈現給客人。冰涼滑溜,甜的恰到好處,柑橘獨特的芳香和尾韻的苦味非常爽口迷人,是款非常適合夏天吃的甜點。
Anmitsu (864 yen), a traditional Japanese dessert composed of kantan jelly with red beans, glutinous rice dumplings, sugared chestnuts, and drizzled with brown sugar syrup.
あんみつ(864日幣)。餡蜜,發音爲 “anmitsu”,是一種以寒天爲原料凝固後切成塊狀,搭配了紅豆、湯圓、糖漬栗子等等,最後淋上黑糖蜜的日本傳統甜品。付送的冷泡烘焙茶味道也很好。
Honwarabimochi (1296 yen) is a sticky confection made from bracken starch and sugar, to be eaten after dipping in kinako (sweet toasted soybean flour). My friends were not a fan of its color and texture, though I personally found the chewy stickiness to be quite interesting…
本わらび餅(1296日幣)是蕨菜澱粉和糖做成的涼糕,吃法是將它沾上黃豆粉和黑糖蜜後享用。同行的朋友很不欣賞蕨餅(像鼻涕般)粘稠的質地和顔色,不過我倒覺得滑溜溜黏糊糊的口感吃起來挺有趣的。

A charming old shop. If you are in Arashiyama during April to September, do not miss the natsukanto at Oimatsu – this simple-looking dessert is surprisingly delicious, and perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day.
如果夏天造訪嵐山,一定不要錯過老松的夏柑糖 - 在炎熱的日子裡做下來吃一份冰涼清爽的甜點(而且真的是看似簡單但令人意外的美味),再消暑不過了。
