We popped our heads into Little Creatures, and were instantly stunned by its sheer size. This massive concrete-and-steel warehouse has 260 seats in total, and in all imaginable permutations too: bar stools, high tables for two, spacious booths, and long communal tables. What people come here for are the beer (there are no spirits and only a limited wine list) and the food, which involved some all-time favorites like pizza, fish & chips and nachos, as well as some Australian specialties like grilled kangaroo. Despite its size, this ultra popular beer hall is often packed and does not take reservations, so be prepared to line up should you come on a weekend evening.
I quite liked these light fittings, cleverly made from clusters of brown bottles.
Saving room for dinner, we only had a glass of Pipsqueak pear cider (5.5AUD/pot) and a White Rabbit white ale (6AUD/330ml), though I really would’ve liked to try the steak and onion pie and grilled kangaroo…
For the beer geeks, here’s a little blurb on White Rabbit white ale from its website: “The beer delivers refreshing hints of coriander, juniper berry and bitter orange, with fresh fruity aromas and only a gentle amount of bitterness. A small touch of additional yeast at bottling naturally conditions the ale, with a final abv of 4.5%.”
Little Creatures does nicely for a casual meal or an afternoon/late night drink, and I must not forget to mention this…it offers free wi-fi! Thank you, thank you.
