Spent some lovely time last weekend staying with friends in Orbec, a small 2500-people town in Normandy. As much as I love Paris, it sure does wonders to the body and mind to leave the city once in a while.
A stroll through the Sunday market, followed by visiting the church where my friends will get married next Spring.
Back home, it’s lunch time. Cider, pâté, white sausage, marinated herrings, carrot salad, Camembert cheese, and lemon tart.
After lunch, a walk around town through the woods, which ended up taking over two hours long. Cows, sheep, horses, berries, mushrooms, and most pleasantly, fresh air.
It was dark and cold by the time we got home, so we lit the first fire of the year (lucky me!) and got ready for dinner. Champagne, freshly-shucked oysters, a great bottle of red from Gigondas, roasted lamb leg, potatoes in duck fat, sauteed black and white mushrooms…oh my.
After dinner, we lounged by the fireplace and sipped on homemade plum wine and calvados, and retreated to bed as the fire died down. What, a, life.
