A cute boulangerie/patisserie/confiserie in the Montmartre neighborhood. This isn’t my usual hangout, but I made the effort to trek all the way up here one early morning after seeing this video (go to 0:50 min) – this place just looked too charming to pass.
The chef, Boris Lumé, is French by origin and was trained in Paris before he spent 2 years in Tokyo with his Japanese wife, also a boulanger by profession. He’s been through a few big names like Joël Robuchon, Cyril Lignac, and Frédéric Lalos before setting up his own place here in Montmartre, and his pastries stand somewhere in the middle between haute patisseries (e.g. Pierre Hermé) and your corner boulangerie.
Here are few things I took home with. In general the pastries are good – I especially enjoyed the strawberry tart (now is the season!) – though the cream tends to be on the heavy side.
Tarte Fraise (€4.20), strawberry tart with fresh strawberries and strawberry-flavored cream.
Praliné (€4.50), chocolate biscuit wrapping chocolate cream and crunchy praliné.
Tarte Citron (€3.90), lemon cream and a thin layer of almond cream sitting on top of a sablé breton.
Matcha (€4.50), matcha biscuit wrapping matcha cream, red fruits compote, sitting on top of a crunchy layer of black sesame.
I also tried a few viennoiseries and a baguette, all decent. Here’s the brioche au sucre (€1.40).
Croissant (€1.10).
Baguette aux céréales (€1.50).
Not really a destination, but if you are in the Montmartre neighborhood, do drop by this cute place for some pastries and breads.
