Just last week, Pichard’s croissant was recommended to me as “the best in Paris” on two independent occasions, both recommenders being highly reliable sources (the first is an established pastry chef, the other a fellow pastry school graduate and food lover). So off I went.
The shop, located in the 15th, is bright and modern. Its displays are filled with gorgeous-looking breads and viennoiseries.
There is also a selection of pâtisserie, but I skipped these for the time being.
My purchases – viennoiseries galore!
I first tried the famed croissant (€1.10), which won “Paris’ best croissant” in 2011, and it was indeed charming. Its interior is supremely soft and fluffy, like clouds, like down pillows, like…what a really good croissant should taste like.
The croissant was delicious, but the chausson aux pommes (€1.20) really impressed. Crispy, flaky layers wrapping an ultra comforting and fragrant apple puree. Love at first bite.
Pain au chocolat (€1.10).
Escargot chocolat pistache (€1.25).
Baguette (€1). Very light and airy, with a thin crispy crust.
I’ve tried their croissant last year, it’s very good indeed and so is the Milles feuilles!
