Casual dinner at Chez Graff, a charming little restaurant on the quiet rue de Bellechasse. Opened in 2013 by Thomas Loustaut in collaboration with Laiterie Sainte Clotilde just next door, with Japanese chef Koji Tsuchiya in the kitchen. I’ve passed by this restaurant a few times and have always been attracted by the warm glow oozing out of its floor-to-ceiling windows, and this week I finally stepped in for dinner.
Appetizer: ceviche de bar asiatique (€9), seabass ceviche with coconut milk and pomegranate. Refreshing, delicious.
Seiches et asperges blanches au miso et yuzu (€9), squid and white asparagus in miso and yuzu sauce, topped with parmesan crisps. Loved the texture of the squid, and the flavor was perfect with miso and yuzu.
Main course: pluma iberique, aubergines, poivrons, salicornes et oignons carameelises (€22), Iberico pork with aubergine, pepper, sea asparagus, and caramelized onions.
Gnocchis aux palourdes et coquillages, sauce the vert (€18), gnocchis with clams in green tea sauce.
Fraises, creme de citron et basilic, biscuits maison (€8), strawberries, lemon and basilic cream, house-made biscuits. This one was a bit disappointing – I think I needed a bit more cream as well as the mille feuille-like biscuits to make it not feel like just eating strawberries.
Sorbets et glaces (€8): caramel with sea salt, speculoos, cherry. The speculoos ice-cream was especially memorable for me – so yum.
With the exception of the strawberry dessert, dinner at Chez Graff was a lovely experience with light, creative, delicious dishes, and very friendly service. A place to come back to.
