In Paris, it ain’t easy finding a place to eat on Sunday evenings. Thank goodness, we have Dans Les Landes. This casual bar serves small dishes inspired by Southwestern French cooking – I suppose we can’t exactly call them tapas because they are not Spanish, but that’s the idea. And yes, it’s open everyday!
We were too hungry to even read the menu, so we asked the waiter to bring us whatever he recommended and then added a few more orders as the meal unfolded. A flurry of dishes descended upon our table, and while not all of them hit home, most were delicious. Scroll to the end of the post for the list of my favorites among the 13 dishes we tried.
Bouchées de salade Landais (€9), salade wrapped in rice paper along with foie gras and duck breast.
Polenta croustillante au magret fumé (€9), polenta croquette with smoked duck.
Chipirons frits aux piments doux (€11), deep-fried baby squids with sweet spice.
Camembert frits pommes vertes et celeri (€11), fried Camembert cheese with green apples and celery.
Croustillant de gambas au wasabi (€3.5/each), fried shrimp with wasabi.
Saint-Jacques rôties à la Brésilienne (€17), Brazilian-style roasted scallops.
Filets de cailles marinés et croustillants (€12), pan-fried quail.
Thon snacké au gingimbre, sauce chinoise (€15), ginger-crusted tuna with Chinese sauce.
Sabot de jambon Ibaïona (€8), a shoe of Ibaïona ham.
Cappuccino de choux fleurs aux chataignes (€4), cream of cauliflower and chestnut soup.
Entrecôte et escargots échallots confits (€17), steak with snail and shallot confit.
Veritables risotto aux truffes (€15), truffle risotto.
Petits choux vanilles, crème caramel au buerre sale (€7), vanilla cream puff with caramel cream and salted butter.
What I’d order again on a second visit:
- Bouchées de salade Landais (rice paper-wrapped salad with foie gras and duck breast)
- Polenta croustillante au magret fumé (polenta croquette with smoked duck)
- Chipirons frits aux piments doux (deep-fried baby squid with sweet spice)
- Camembert frits pommes vertes et celeri (fried Camembert cheese with green apples and celery)
- Filets de cailles marinés et croustillants (pan-fried quail)
- Sabot de jambon Ibaïona (Ibaïona ham)
- Petits choux vanilles, crème caramel au buerre sale (vanilla cream puff with caramel cream and salted butter)
On another Sunday, probably.
Try the delicious burgers at Le Petite Cannailles beside the hotel at 74 Rue Amelot, Marais. Maybe it´s the wrong name but they are open until 02 every day, even sunday! Merci is very close by as well, but closed on sundays. I was there one week ago and I loved the place!
