A simple and cozy espresso bar, opened just a few months ago in Le Marais (right near metro Chemin Vert) by Youssef Louanjli. Youssef is no newcomer to Paris’ coffee scene – he was previously at the highly praised Black Market Coffee, which he closed down for insufficient kitchen space. What you can find at the newer, bigger Fragments: beans from Coutume, Belleville, and Coffee Collective, brewed on a Kees Van Der Westen Mirage. I did not see any food on my visit, but apparently Fragments also serves simple breakfast and lunch, with a focus on fresh ingredients.
Love this corner. And the rest of the cafe space, for that matter.
Dreaming up my next pastry project with a cup of café crème (€4).
Was slightly intrigued when I saw these koinobori (鯉幟), carp-shaped wind socks traditional flown in Japan during tango no sekku and children’s day. You might have noticed from the second picture that the paper cups at Fragments also bear the same sign…I should remember to ask for the significance, if any, next time I visit.
(Obviously not making much progress on my pastry brainstorming.)
Two cups of café crème later…
A charming little place. Wish there’s one just like this in my neighborhood.
