Where might one find the butteriest, flakiest, crispiest croissant in Paris, you might ask? As this is a question of utmost importance, a jury of professionals meets annually to elect a list of “best croissants of Paris”. In 2012, the number one spot belongs to Laurent Duchêne, a Pâtissier M.O.F. (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) with a simple shop in the 13th arrondissement.
But of course, other than croissants, Laurent Duchêne also has on display a range of other lovely products…
Et voilà, le meilleur croissant francilien of 2012 (€1.2).
Buttery, flaky, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Indeed decadent.
I also tasted a tarte aux fruits de la passion (€4.5), but didn’t quite like the strong eggy flavor in the custard.
Ambroisie (€4.5), on the other hand, was wonderful with layers of crunchy almonds, dark chocolate cream, chocolate fondant biscuit, and raspberry ganache.
The croissants at Laurent Duchêne are indeed delicious, but I wouldn’t trek across Paris just for them. For a full listing of Les Meilleurs Croissants Franciliens 2012, click here – perhaps there is one close to where you live!
