Pirouette: a bright and airy space with light-hearted cuisine to match – a perfect lunch spot.
Lofted ceiling, blonde wood furniture, an abundance of natural light streaming in from large windows.
The lunch menu, which includes an entrée du jour and a plat du jour, is priced at €18. Excellent value, needless to say. There is also a 3-course Pirouette menu for €40, and a degustation menu for €60.
On the day of our visit, entrée du jour was mushroom chestnut soup with crème fraîche, chestnuts, and bacon bits. Perfectly soothing for a rainy winter day.
The bread, by the way, was excellent. Thin crunchy crust with a soft fluffy interior, oh my.
As for the plat du jour, one option was codfish with polenta in seafood broth/foam. A very pleasant dish, with the juicy, bouncy flesh of cod and creamy polenta being a great complement for one another.
The other plat du jour option was beef with roasted potatoes in red wine sauce. The flavor was wonderful, though the texture was slightly on the chewy side.
For dessert, what I originally wanted to try was the “mascarpone tart with coffee caramel and passion fruit ice-cream” (€12), but apparently everyone else had the same thing in mind and none was left by the time I ordered. So instead we went with “ganache, corn, popcorn, peanuts, praliné” (€12). An interesting dessert plate combining everything as listed, though the balance was a bit off since the intense ganache overpowered the other ingredients (I would’ve liked more of that corn ice-cream!)
Pirouette has certainly got all the elements for a perfect lunch spot: charming space, light dishes, excellent value. Did I mention that it’s also very centrally located near Les Halles? Be sure to book ahead to secure a table.
