Back at Sebastien Gaudard‘s chic boutique on rue des Martyrs for his tarte au citron, but of course left with a bit more than just that.
Today’s buys.
Puits d’Amour (€4.90), puff pastry with a hollow center stuffed with vanilla pastry cream, with a slightly burnt sugar top. The puff pastry layered beautifully, and the pastry cream fragrant with vanilla. Traditional done well, typical of Sebastien Gaudard.
Tartelette Fruit du Hasard (€4.90), puff pastry tart shell topped with pistachio cream and figs. I couldn’t really taste much pistachio in the cream, and would’ve preferred a fresher/less sweet flavor from the figs.
And of course, the tarte au citron (€4.50). No need to describe it again as I already did last time, and yes it’s still delicious.
Napolitain (€4.90), heavy chocolate mousse wrapping two thin layers of vanilla meringue, then covered in chocolate bits. Very rich, only for the true chocoholics.
I decided to give Sebastien Gaudard’s croissant (€1.20) another try despite my previous disappointment. I mean, it wasn’t bad, but I had high expectations since it won 2nd place in the 2013 croissant ranking by Firago.
Pretty good…pretty good…but my favorite is still the luxurious croissant from Des Gateaux et du Pain, and I’ve terribly deprived lately because Des Gateaux et du Pain is closed for the summer. September, hurry up and come already.
