To compensate for a rather disappointing breakfast at Cafe Marlette (more on this later in a separate post), Carin and I strolled along rue des Martyrs to Sebastien Gaudard for some sweet pick-me-ups. For previous posts on this cute pastry shop (which has one of my favorite lemon tarts in Paris), see here, here, and here.
For those who wish to take photos in the shop, do note that only 2 photos are allowed per person. Ahem, yes, they are actually that strict about it. On another note, special thanks to Carin for lending me her camera for the morning! Can’t believe I left my battery at home, yikes.
I’ve once tried Sebastien Gaudard’s Puits d’Amour and really loved it, so I was delighted to see Puits d’Amour Fruits Rouges (€5.20) a red fruit version of this pastry. The base is the same – a hollow puff pastry filled with vanilla pastry cream, but this time topped with a compote of red fruits. Quite nice, but the pastry cream tasted slightly bland this time and I also wished for more red fruits in proportion to the rest.
Tarte Agrumes (€5), a simple tart with sweet pastry crust, almond cream, topped with fresh orange and blood orange slices. Loved the vibrant color and the refreshing flavor.
That is all for this time. What? Just two pastries? That’s so unlike me.
Looking forward to seeing u in Paris!
Gorgeous..miam..miam
A reminder of what I’ve been missing
Do you use a Kyocero to cut so cleanly thru the pastries?
Not easy to do
Hi Paris Breakfast :) To cut the pastries, I use a sharp knife that has been heated (either with a flame or hot water) for a clean cut. It’s very easy actually!
