Please note that this was a complimentary stay arranged by the resort.
When I was checking in at Kata Rocks, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. Sure, I had seen photos and videos of this luxury six-star resort prior to my arrival, but none of these really meant much until I actually jumped into the private infinity pool on the terrace of my 175-sqm villa. Soaking up an unobstructed view of the Andaman Sea and watching the sky change in shade as the sun goes down – this has got to be one of the best moments I’ve had in a while.
The resort, a project by lifestyle design group Infinite Luxury, is located near Kata Beach on the western coast of Phuket. Its setup ensures that all 34 of their villas have private pools with sunset views – no, not a bad idea at all if you ask me. Other facilities include oceanfront restaurant & bar, infinite luxury spa, cutting edge fitness room (which was later referred to me as “the best gym on this island” by the general manager of another luxury resort in Phuket”, library/lounge and function rooms…all very attractive, though I was happy in the pool and not ready to leave anytime soon.
There wasn’t much going on in the ocean around this time, except para gliders that swept across the sky occasionally. After a long flight, this tranquility was just what I needed.
Sun beds and pool-side sofas.
Apologies for the avalanche of photos but views of the sky were simply too mesmerizing.
Back inside the villa, I had a chance to check out the amenities of its interior. A one-bedroom Sky Villa of 175 sqm (41,545 THB/night), the space includes a large living area, open plan kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom in addition to the spacious terrace with private pool. The design, along with the rest of the resort, is modern, sleek, and elegant. For those with family or bigger groups, there are two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas (118,700 baht/THB) to choose from.
The villa is equipped with full home automation and iPad control of everything from the blinds to ordering room service. The kitchen is conveniently stocked with every type of glassware and cooking utensil, plus a laundry machine which comes in very handy after days of traveling.
The bedroom, with an ultra comfortable bed.
A bathroom with just about everything you’d need. A long soak in the bathtub with the excellent built-in music selection is almost obligatory.
Sunset from the living room.
As night time rolls around, resort staff came by to set up the room for the evening, including closing down the shades, placing fresh flowers on the bed, and leaving a little note indicating tomorrow’s weather. Small gestures that make one feels well cared for.
And all this while I couldn’t help but linger for a few more moments in the pool, even after dark.
After a good night’s sleep, I woke up early to this serene view.
Breakfast takes place right in front of the resort’s 35-meter infinity pool. I heard that they also do in-villa dinners as well as candlelit table for two by the ocean for those who desire such setup. A feast under the stars by the seaside, why not.
A la carte breakfast is included in villa rates, and I started my day with warm banana breads, eggs Benedict with tom yum hollandaise, and a glass of guava, young coconut, and flax seed juice to freshen up.
At Kata Rocks, it’s easy to do as much or as little as one desires. Gym, yoga classes, spa, water activities, excursions to other islands, special dinners – everything can be arranged, but the tranquility and exclusivity of the resort (thanks to the limited number of guests) make it a very tempting idea to simply stay in, lounge around, and do nothing. A few days here does the body and mind wonders, and I’m sure you’d agree with me if you come experience this stylish retreat for yourself.
Did you pay for this with your own money?
Hi Pete, this was complimentary stay arranged by the resort – sorry I didn’t make this clear, I have now highlighted this in red at the beginning of the post.
