For a very long time, my overall impression for Xintiandi has been: expensive restaurants serving not so amazing food. The recently-opened Cobra Lily, however, is something to be noticed. Brought to you by the team behind The Boxing Cat and Liquid Laundry, Cobra Lily does creative fusion Asian cuisine priced around 100 rmb for lunch and 300 rmb for dinner – it doesn’t get much more reasonable for this neighborhood.

對新天地的總體印象是:餐廳個個價格高、東西卻又不怎麼樣,不過最近 The Boxing Cat 和 Liquid Laundry 的老板們新開的 “Cobra Lily 鏡花水月” 倒有點令人眼睛一亮 - 亞洲創意菜做的很有特色,而且午餐一百左右、晚餐三百左右的價位也不誇張。去了三次之後覺得可以推薦,速速整理下照片分享給你。

Let’s take a look at the decor first. The two-storey space includes a restaurant, a bar, and a DJ stand on the 2nd floor. The designer kept the original Shikumen structure while incorporating modern oriental elements – wall illustrations, vases, napkins, cushions…sprinkled here and there.

先來看看裝潢。兩層樓的空間裡有餐廳、酒吧、二樓還有DJ台,設計上保留了石庫門的結構,添入了顔色鮮豔的沙發、壁畫、從餐巾到地板都融入了不少時髦的現代東方元素。

Continuing the traditions from The Boxing Cat and Liquid Laundy, Cobra Lily offers craft beers and creative cocktails. If you are a lunch drinker like I am, perhaps try the refreshing Tokyo Lights (75 rmb), composed of Hendrick’s gin, kaffir infused gin, Midori, egg white, matcha green tea syrup.

延續了 The Boxing Cat 和 Liquid Laundry 的風格,Cobra Lily 也有精釀啤酒和創意調酒。和我一樣午餐時間就開喝的話,可以試試比較清爽的 Tokyo Lights 東京燈光(75元), 由Hendrick’s 金酒、青檸葉金酒、Midori 利口酒、蛋清、以及抹茶風味糖漿調制而成。

Lunch can be a la carte or sets of 2~3 dishes, priced between 78~128 rmb. The 78 rmb set is a main course plus soup of the day, which happened to be tom yang soup on the day of my visit, but unfortunately it was too salty to be finished.

午餐可以單點也可以選擇2~3道的套餐,價位在78~128元之間。78元的套餐是一道主菜加當日例湯,我去的那天是冬陰功湯,可惜做得太鹹,最後沒有喝完。

For appetizer, I chose “Yeoboseyo K-Town Calling”, soft (really soft) creamy homemade tofu, avocado, burdock, sesame spinach, fresh baby lettuces, truffled sesame miso dressing. A light and healthy one.

開胃菜選擇了 Yeoboseyo K-Town Calling “韓國小鎮的呼喚”,有極柔軟的奶油豆腐、牛油果、牛蒡、芝麻菠菜、新鮮小生菜、最後撒上松露芝麻調料。健康清爽的一道。

Main course “White Boy Fry Rice” is their version of kimchee fried rice with house bacon, ketchup, sunny side egg and Korean fried chicken wings. The rice were a bit on the hard side for me, but overall yum (especially the fried chicken).

主菜 White Boy Fry Rice “老外會炒飯”,是叠了個煎蛋的韓國泡菜炒飯搭配韓式炸雞。煎蛋是切開來相當誘人半熟狀態,炒飯的飯有點硬,不過總體是好吃的(特別是韓式炸雞)。

Also tried the “Phat Hongshao Smoked Brisket Noodle”, brined, smoked, and braised brisket served with braised tendon, daikon, and noodles. Fatty just like the way it should be, and heavily smoked – worth a try for those looking for an intense flavor.

也試了 Phat Hongshao Smoked Brisket Noodle “紅燒煙熏牛肉面”,煙熏的味道非常濃,喜歡重口味的人可以試試。

An interesting choice among the dessert options is “Feng Li Shu” Taiwanese Pineapple Cake, composed of Chinese almond ice-cream, financier cake, pineapple IPA compote, duck egg sababyon, toasted milk and salted duck egg powder. The concept is Taiwanese pineapple cake, but the execution is obviously something very different (the salted duck egg definitely a hit for me).

甜點裡有個有趣的 “台灣鳳梨酥”,結合了杏仁冰淇淋、費南雪蛋糕、鳳梨丁、鴨蛋沙巴庸、烤奶+鹹鴨蛋粉末,份量足以可以讓2~3人分享。雖然以 “鳳梨酥” 爲構思,不過這卻是一道完全不同的甜點,非常有創意,口感豐富,鹹蛋黃更是畫龍點睛。

The second dessert “Godzilla Does Bangkok”  is a beautiful mess of pandan curd, coconut sorbet, puffed rice, and togarashi. It’s hard to tell what this is just from the looks, but scoop up a full spoonful (make sure you get a bit of everything) and you’ll see that it’s a lovely combination of flavors and textures.

另一款甜點 Godzilla Does Bangkok “歌斯拉決戰曼谷”(嗯你可能注意到了,這家餐廳的菜名都取的相當有創意),由斑蘭布丁、椰子冰淇淋、脆米、和七味粉組成,看起來一團亂七八糟的(難怪名字取成這樣),不過一勺舀起來還真好吃。

In the evening, Cobra Lily turns into this. I’m not sure when the DJ comes, but do know that the evenings here are much louder than during day time – something to note for those who prefer a lower noise level.

晚上的 Cobra Lily 則是另一種氣氛。入夜後,店裏點起了冷色調的燈光,又添了蠟燭增加一些溫暖。不確定幾點開始 DJ 會來,總之晚上的音樂比白天更 high,和 Liquid Laundry 一樣是個音量較大的地方,討厭吵的人請注意一下。

The drinking continues at night. Tom Khallins (75 rmb) seems to be the drink of choice as the bar pushes out one cup after another – a mix of coconut milk, coconut puree, kaffir infused gin, citrus, lemongrass infused gin. At first sip it feels like drinking some kind of Thai dish, but it quickly becomes addicting…

晚上,酒繼續喝。這款 Tom Khallins 湯姆科林司(75元)似乎是人氣調酒,吧台一連出了三杯,裡面有椰奶、椰子果泥、青檸葉金酒、青檸汁、檸檬草金酒,第一口下去覺得自己在喝某道泰國菜,不過越喝越上瘾…

It was a huge dinner with a never-ending flow of dishes and I won’t bore you by describing each in detail, so here are the dish names with photos for reference, starting with “Love me or Hate me Edamame” (48 rmb), baijiu, truffle & black bean dressing.

As with all new restaurant openings, Cobra Lily has some hiccups, but overall the dishes are creative and delicious. Of course, one doesn’t only come here for the food, but also for the drinks, the decor, the ambience. It’s a place best for groups of 4~6 people as dishes are designed to be shared. 新店開幕總是有一些不穩定,不過總的來說 Cobra Lily 的料理做得不僅有創意,味道也不錯。喜歡這裏當然還有因爲它的裝潢美、有好酒、而且價格不高;菜的份量適合多人分享,建議叫些朋友一起來(個人覺得4~6人是個不錯的數字),可以嚐到更多的菜色。今天晚上,走起?
