Dropped by Daliah for lunch last week and it still felt like Chinese New Year there with these giant red lanterns hanging down for the ceiling. Since its opening last summer, this Austrian restaurant has been known for its quirky design – a few prominent features are the swings and that metallic slide twirling down from the second floor. I’ve been here once for lunch and once for breakfast, the food was ok on both visits – nothing impressive, nothing atrocious – but perhaps I shouldn’t judge until I’ve tried its dinner, when the more Austrian dishes like the spatzel are served.

“Too Cool for School” (93 RMB), raw tuna tartare, avocado, teriyaki fried eggplant, pickled apple, with small mixed salad. Tuna tartare with avocado is a common combination, but to have this with teriyaki fried eggplant was something new for me – and it worked. Pickled apple was also a refreshing addition.
“Fries Over Guys” (103 RMB) homemade beef burger with mozzarella, greyer cheese, coleslaw, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, caramelized onions, served with spicy fries and small salad. The pulled beef had been cooked for 48 hours and was quite tender indeed, but other than that this wasn’t a very memorable dish.
Breakfast from a visit last year in October. Very sunny-looking with the yellow coffee cup, orange juice, and sunny-side up egg – perfect for my Instagram photo, but the taste was nothing too special.

You should definitely try dinner. I went last summer so the menu’s probably changed since, but I remember being quite impressed with their spatzel and a beef cheek croquette dish.
