I dropped by Moon Coffee on a quiet Monday. There were only two other guests this afternoon, and as they soon departed after my arrival, I had the luxury of enjoying the cafe – tiny as it is – all to myself. It’s tugged deeply inside an alley on Anfu Road, definitely not somewhere you’d stumble upon, and that in itself is a charm. Upon entering, there was Erik Satie and the smell of freshly ground coffee floating in air, with mild sunshine seeping in through the windows…a perfect winter afternoon moment.

我在一個安靜的周一去了月球。這家咖啡店深深的藏在安福路的小弄堂裏，隱秘的相當迷人。一進門，空氣裏除了有新鮮研磨的咖啡香氣，還飄著 Erik Satie 略帶惆怅的鋼琴曲調，以及透過窗戶滲入，微弱溫柔的冬日陽光。店裏本來有兩個客人，而他們離開了後整個下午就我一人獨享這美好的空間。

Moon Cafe has two tables and a few stools. Standing at the bar on the day of my visit was A-Tang, a soft-spoken coffee barista from Hainan. We had a lovely chat, mostly about coffee and a little bit about music, after which he kindly shared with me his playlist of that afternoon, consisting of Erik Satie and piano pieces in similar style. I’m listening to the playlist as I write, all that’s missing is a good cup of coffee.

月球只有兩張桌子和一些板凳。我到訪的那天站在吧台的是阿堂，一個說話輕輕柔柔的海南男孩。我們聊著咖啡的事，也說了一些音樂，最後他把那個下午 Erik Satie 風格的 playlist 推給了我。我現在邊寫著邊聽著，就差一杯好咖啡了。

The decor at Moon Cafe is lovely in the most casual, homely manner. Cups hanging on the shelf, coffee books in stacks, Moomin sitting on the counter, and even the disco ball hanging from the ceiling somehow fits harmoniously into the picture.

店內布置很家常。挂在架子上的鋼杯、疊成堆的咖啡書籍、坐在吧台上的 Moomin、連從天花板垂吊而下的迪斯科球都毫無違和感。

As for coffee, I first tried “Youth” (32 RMB), or “small latte” as written in Chinese. A pleasantly strong cup, perfect for those who want something a bit more than the typical latte.

我先點了一杯小拿鐵（32元），比一般的拿鐵要稍濃一些，很好。

A-Tang then offered to brew me a cup of hand drip coffee with beans they recently acquired from Yunnan. And by acquired I mean that the team actually went together in person, just this past December, to visit the coffee plantation and eventually selecting this sun-dried “Typica”.

接著，阿堂沖了一杯他們去年12月份親自去雲南保山佐園咖啡挑選來的豆子，一款日曬處理的 “鐵皮卡”。月球咖啡自己的微信號上精彩的記錄了這次雲南咖啡之旅，有興趣的話可以去看看（可搜尋 “月球咖啡” 或微信號：Moon_CoffeeRoasters）。

This bean is quite sweet with a pleasant fermented flavor. A-Tang explained that when the brew is hot, it has cream and peach flavors (I personally thought it also smelled a little bit like black tea), and as it cools, the sweet sour notes become more pronounced and the mouthfeel more rounded. The price hasn’t been determined as they only just received this sample batch and it’s currently not on the menu, but for your information the other hand dripped coffee here are between 39-75 RMB a cup.

他說這款豆子有非常高的甜度和令人愉悅的酵感，熱的時候有奶油和桃子的風味，而隨著溫度下降，酸甜的平衡會更加突出，口感更加圓潤。我自己在聞的時候覺得有紅茶的香味，很有趣。這款豆子現在還不在 menu 上，價格待定，不過月球的手沖一般是 39-75 元一杯。

On a separate visit when it was slightly warmer, I was able to sit outside in the little courtyard and enjoy a cup of matcha latte (39 RMB) with a piece of chocolate cake, made by Phlower Studio right next door, which also looks like a super cute space. I’ll be sure to come visit after Chinese New Year and introduce it to you.

另一次來的時候天氣還沒有那麽冷，我坐在室外的小庭院裏喝了杯抹茶拿鐵，嚐了塊隔壁 Phlower Studio 做的巧克力蛋糕（飲品＋甜點68元）。話說 Phlower Studio 看起來也是個很有意思的地方，節後肯定會回來看看，把這裏介紹給你。

I didn’t have a chance to meet the cafe owner on this visit as she was out roasting coffee beans, but from the sound of it she must be someone very passionate and focused on what she does. Will be back, very soon.

這天月球咖啡的主理人曉楓在外面烘豆子，我沒機會碰到她，不過想象中應該是對咖啡充滿熱情，相當專注的一個人。下次能夠見到面吧。
