Tong Ah Eating House, a local favorite serving delicious kaya toast for breakfast (all day from 7am-10pm), is just steps away from KeSa House where I was staying at. Naturally, I came here for breakfast the very next day after arriving in Singapore.

距離我這次入住的 KeSa House 步行約 30 秒,就是相當受當地人喜愛的東亞餐室。抵達新加坡的第二天我就約了朋友在這裡吃早餐,等不及要嚐嚐他們出名的咖椰吐司。


It was packed when I arrived at 9:30am. The little kitchen in front was busy sending out one kaya toast after another to hungry diners:

9點半時是客滿狀態,店家快速俐落地做著咖椰吐司:


Thin white bread toasted crispy, then lathered on with kaya jam and blocks of butter. The portion might look small, but each mouthful is rich with the interlacing flavors of coconut milk, pandan, and butter…

Note: kaya jam is a sweet creamy coconut spread made from coconut milk and eggs, flavored with pandan leaf and sweetened with sugar.

烤得酥脆的薄吐司上著咖椰醬再夾上奶油,一口咬下去超級香酥可口。份量看似不大,但加上附送的兩個水波蛋一起吃完後,還是很有飽足感的。

註:咖椰醬是用香蘭葉以及椰奶煮成的甜抹醬,跟咖喱沒有關系哦。


The set comes with a cup of Kopi (coffee with condensed milk and sugar) and soft boiled eggs. If you prefer black coffee, do let the staff know in advance.

吃多了怕膩的話,別忘了搭配一杯 Kopi 咖啡喲。小提醒:Kopi 一般會加煉乳和糖,要黑咖啡的話記得先跟店家打聲招呼。


Though not the most photogenic, kaya toast from Tong Ah Eating House was definitely one of my favorite things on this trip to Singapore. If you are looking for more kaya toast options, I hear “Ya Kun” is also worth a visit.

雖然拍起來不是最美麗,但東亞餐室的咖椰吐司是我這次在新加坡吃到最喜歡的東西之一。另外也聽當地朋友推薦過 “亞坤” 的咖椰吐司,留到下次吧。
