A friend recently came back from Tokyo and brought me a box of chocolates from Le Chocolat de H by Hironobu Tsujiguchi. You might have read my previous posts on this Japanese chocolatier (here and here) and already know that I’m a huge fan of his creations. Needless to say, I was grinning from ear to ear upon receiving this box…an assortment of 16 different chocolate bonbons!
In this two-tiered box, there were:
- Criollo (plain chocolat ganache)
- Hime (earl grey)
- Arabique (coffee)
- Bananier (banana)
- Roussillon (red wine from Roussillon)
- Marbré (coconut mousse & caramel)
- Rustique (crunchy hazelnut)
- Epine (French chestnut)
- Sylvain (hazelnut praliné)
- Rocher (nougatin)
- Japonais “Yuzu” (Japanese yuzu)
- Japonais “Maccha” (Japanese green tea)
- Muscadine (half bitter chocolate ganache)
- Maxima (cinnamon)
- Cappuccino (cinnamon & coffee)
- Bacchus (rum)
It’s absolute fun to discover each chocolate, to feel the textures and tease out the flavors, which are at times subtle and at times powerful. A few that left an especially memorable note include the Bananier (banana), Arabique (coffee), and Bacchus (rum), though my old favorites – Yuzu and Hime (earl grey) still had my heart.
Incidentally, I’ve been getting a box of Le Chocolat de H every year for three years in a row now. Could this become an annual tradition?
